Tentacles.

The first in a series of patterns created for a self initiated project. My hope is to build a seasonal collection of pattern, which will then be printed onto a range of products for the home. These products will be focussed on season fashions, most likely looking to the high street and street fashions for inspirations.

Project: The Hub

Brief: Opening Titles and Branding

Software Used: After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator

Working at Remark! Multimedia, I was commissioned to create the branding for BSLBT/Remark! Production’s new, Deaf news show, The Hub.

The Hub is a new style of television show which gets the inside story on events and issues affecting the Deaf community. Created by a Deaf team, embedded within the community, the programme invites its viewers to contribute their own footage, stories and views.

The brief was to create an opening title sequence that reflected the information nature of the show. We see a camera zoom into earth, followed by a bright zooming light, to represent the flow of information. The light flows through different areas of the community, with people pointing to it in the sky. The sequence finished with the light forming to make The Hub logo. The branding created, was clean and simple, and designed to show an openness and transparency.

The sequence was filmed on location around the UK whilst effects were added in postproduction.

THE SECRET LAB.

Project: The Secret Lab

Brief: Opening Titles and Branding

Software Used: After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator

Working at Remark! Multimedia, I again teamed up with Remark! Production and Drip Media on the production ‘The Secret Lab’. The show was commissioned and broadcast by the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT).

Professor Knowitall and his two assistants Dr Bright and Dr Spark investigate science based questions from school children across the UK in “The Secret Lab”.

Remark! Multimedia was asked to create an opening title sequence using image which children could understand. Our team of designers decided to use symbols and pictures from health and safety signs, things we are all common with. Our task was then to subvert these symbols and show a series of accidents happening to various characters. This hopefully reflects the comedy element that the show has, and the professors bumbling assistants.

The producers also asked the team to create a strong typographic brand which could be used across a range of media.

Working at Remark! Multimedia, I worked in partnership with Remark! Production and Drip Media on the children’s TV show ‘Lets Go Wild’, commissioned by the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT).

Lets Go Wild was filmed at the Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park, which is home to over 70 different species of animals including a large percentage of endangered animals.

Remark! Multimedia were asked to create a short title sequence reflecting the natural beauty of the park’s surroundings, with a strong typographic feel.

DISTILL IPHONE APP.

After completing a successful internship at Distill Magazine, I was asked back to work on converting the magazine to an iPhone application.

I served as Art Director on this adaptation of the magazine. It was my responsibility to ensure that desings followed the strict branding of the magazine before it. The app works well to show the beautiful photo shoots selected for inclusion by the group of top designers and editors.

The app received good reviews, one of which can be found at the Creative Review blog, here

Here I tried to replicate the colours found in the artworks of Wassily Kandinsky, my favourite of all the Bauhaus artists. Abstract expressionism has always been my favourite movement, and here I try to mix that with a quote by the man himself.

COLOUR AND SHAPE POSTERS.

These illustrations were created as part of my investigations into shape and colour whilst at university. I have always had a fascination with triangles, and spent hours playing with these patterns. My investigations were also responsible for my new obsessions with colour.
